In the Fitbit app on your phone, tap on the round icon that may have your photo, at the top left of the screen. You can then do the same thing for your wake-up time. Tap Activity and Wellness > Sleep > Bedtime and use the pull-down menu to adjust your target bedtime. You can also get to this menu by hitting the gearlike Settings icon at the top left of your app’s Sleep menu. Tap Activity and Wellness > Sleep > Time Asleep Goal, and use the pull-down menu to adjust your total sleep target. Tap on the round icon that may (or may not) have your photo, at the top left of the screen. Your Fitbit automatically tracks your sleep, but there are a variety of settings that can help you tailor the device to your needs. Some controls are found on the device for others you’ll need to open your smartphone app. It’s easy to start using your Fitbit’s sleep tracking functions. By the second year your subscription fees are probably approaching the total cost of your tracker. You get a free trial of that service when you buy a new device, but after that it costs $10 a month. While most of the sleep tracking functions are available through the basic Fitbit app, some features, like a sleep profile that assigns you an animal-like avatar (see below) are found only on Fitbit Premium. One thing to remember: For best sleep tracking results, wear your Fitbit moderately snugly and higher on your wrist (toward your elbow) for the most accurate readings. One of the advantages of a Fitbit fitness tracker is its robust battery life, as long as seven days, which means you don’t have to make a choice between nightly tracking and daily wear, or find time during the day for a recharge. (Older Fitbit devices that don’t measure heart rate can’t deliver information about sleep stages.) You can also track your sleep with a Fitbit smartwatch. Fitbit has a full line of fitness trackers, and they all have sleep tracking functions that work in the same way and deliver the same information.
